Observatory Rock adopted 3 April 1934 on C.307, as labelled on British Admiralty Chart 1910, first published in 1848. Name changed to Cerantes Rock 15 April 1946 as originally recommended in December 1933 by both Hydrographic Service and British Columbia; form of name changed to Cerantes Rocks 8 July 1948 on C.3607 (file J.1.33).
