[date of original incorporation not cited.] "Sumas (Municipal District)" adopted in the 18th Report of the Geographic Board of Canada, 31 March 1924, p.357 Sumas (District Municipality) confirmed 3 May 1951 for 92G. Name rescinded 17 November 1972 when Sumas District Municipality was amalgamated with Abbotsford Village Municipality and together re-incorporated as Abbotsford District Municipality 17 November 1972.

District of Sumas: 34,000 acres at incorporation in 1892. Original municipal hall located at the NW corner of Vye + Whatcom Roads; amalgamated with Village of Abbotsford in 1972, and the new District of Abbotsford municipal hall was relocated to 33914 Essendene Ave. (February 2013 advice from GIS/Facility Planning and Heritage specialists, City of Abbotsford)
