West Redonda Island was adopted 6 November 1952 on 92K. Confirmed 2 November 1990 on 92K/2 and 92K/7.

East Redonda and West Redonda Islands were identified by Galiano and Valdes as a single island, "Isla Redonda," in 1792, the Spanish word for "round".
