Named in 1916 by interprovincial boundary surveyors, after the village in Pas-de-Calais, France, recaptured from the Germans by Canadian troops in September 1916. This battle was the first time tanks were used in warfare, and was also the debut of Canadian troops on the Somme battlefield.
