Chute Lake (Station) adopted 6 October 1936 on Geological Survey sheet 420A, Kettle River, as identified in the 1930 BC Gazetteer. Form of name changed to Chute Lake (locality) 6 June 1979 on 82E/12. See Chute Creek.

Chute Lake Post Office was opened 16 October 1921, located at Mile 106, Kettle Valley Railway; Mrs. Jessie Martin postmistress; closed 31 October 1923; re-opened 1 April 1924; closed 30 September 1925; may have opened briefly again before closing in 1927.
