After Lord Carnarvon (1831 - 1890) who in 1874, while secretary of state for the colonies, effected the settlement of difficulties between the Dominion and British Columbia, known as the "Carnarvon Terms" (15th Report, GBC, 1917).

After Henry Howard Molyneux Herbert, 4th Earl of Carnarvon (1831 - 1890), colonial secretary 1866-67 and 1874-78. In 1874 he settled differences between Canada and BC on the "Carnarvon Terms".
