Kootenay Lake Park was established by Order in Council 2328, 4 December 1987, consisting of 4 sites: Coffee Creek, Kaslo Bay, Campbell Bay and Midge Creek (the coordinates of the Coffee Creek site were used for the centre point coordinates of the park). Area expanded per OIC 393/89, 21 March 1989, to include two sites formerly part of Kootenay Lake Recreation Area: Davis Creek and Lost Ledge. Area decreased per OIC 257/90, 15 February 1990, to remove Kaslo Bay Site. Conversion of OIC to Statute designation per Bill 17-2000: Protected Areas of British Columbia Act, 29 June 2000, the whole of Kootenay Lake Park containing 343 ha. more or less (Campbell Bay site containing 25 ha; Coffee Creek site containing 52 ha; Davis Creek site containing 5 ha; Lost Ledge site containing 38 ha; Midge Creek site containing 223 ha). Davis Creek Site boundary redescribed 10 March 2022 per Bill 3: Protected Areas of British Columbia Amendment Act, 2022; 5 hectares of Kootenay Lake Crown foreshore added. The whole containing 348 hectares (Campbell Bay site containing 25 hectares; Coffee Creek site containing 52 hectares; Davis Creek site containing 10 hectares; Lost Ledge site containing 38 hectares; Midge Creek site containing 223 hectares).
