Origin Notes and History:

Sandy Island Park established per Order in Council 1710, 7 June 1966. Name changed to Sandy Island Marine Park 22 August 1988 on 92F/10. Redescribed per OIC 1201/90. Conversion of OIC to Statute designation per Bill 17-2000: Protected Areas of British Columbia Act, 29 June 2000; the whole containing 18 ha. more or less. Name changed to "Jáji7em and Kw'uhl Marine Park (a.k.a. Sandy Island Marine Park)" per Bill 49-2012: Protected Areas of British Columbia Amendment Act, 31 May 2012, the whole containing approximately 30 hectares.

The 1981 map "Welcome to the Comox Valley" published by Comox District Free Press, identifies this as Tree Island Park rather than Sandy Island Park; Tree Island is the well-established local name of the largest island in the park, with Seal Islets adjacent...
