After John Burns (1852-1916) his wife Anne (1852-1929) and their youngest son John (1878-1962). John, Sr. was born in Belfast, and Annie Buchan in Perth, Scotland; they met and married in Glasgow, and had three sons there: Robert, Harry and John. The family immigrated to Parry Sound, Ontario in 1878-79 before relocating to Nelson in 1898. John Burns & Son Construction Company built many of the larger buildings in the district including the old Nelson Post Office (now City Hall), Central School, Hume School, the brewery, the old hospital, the old fire hall, the Barnard block, government buildings in Rossland, Trail & Grand Forks, Court Houses in Nelson, Vernon & Kaslo, the post office at Greenwood, and many private homes. The family construction business was sold to A.H. Green in 1929, the same year John, Jr. purchased much of the Ainsworth townsite and hot springs; he built a pool, hotel & cabins, and operated the resort there for many years. John Burns, Jr. had married Rose Swain (1882-1964) in 1909, and in 1918 they purchased property at this point and built a summer home; they and their 4 children used the "ranch" for many years. The property at Burns Point is still owned by several of John and Rose's grandchildren - one of whom lives in the original house. (biographical information provided February 1987 by Ted Burns, supplemented by June 2002 advice from John Burns, both great grandchildren of John and Anne Burns. )
