Origin Notes and History:

Charlotte Lake adopted in the 1930 BC Gazetteer as labelled on BC map 1G, 1916; not Kappan Lake as mis-labelled on a map entitled Tatla-Bella Coola, by Dr. Dolmage (date/additional details not cited). Charlotte Lake re-approved 7 February 1947 on 93SW, described as "at the head of Atnarko River"; description subsequently changed to "expansion of Atnarko River".

Said to be named after the wife of a surveyor.

Note that this lake was NOT named after Charlotte Whitton (1896-1975), the first woman mayor of Ottawa, 1951-56 and 1961-64, although a tributary of Charlotte Lake, Whitton Creek, was deliberately named in 1953 with her in mind.
