Adopted 5 April 1927 on C.313. Confirmed 8 July 1954 on 103I-J. Location re-confirmed 7 June 1995 at location & elevation (3020' asl) as originally intended in 1927.

Named in 1914 by Captain P.C.Musgrave, after Robert Cunningham. In 1871 Cunningham had pre-empted Lots 45 & 46, which were crown granted to him 13 April 1891. On these lots he founded Essington [sic], eventually building a salmon cannery and sawmill there. See also Cunningham Passage.
