Cameo Lake adopted 6 October 1936 on Geological Survey sheet 420A, Kettle River (file K.1.36). Had been labelled "Cameo (Cameron) Lake" on BC map 4N, 1930. Name changed to Cameron Lake 15 December 1982 on 82E/13, the long-standing local name.

Alastair Cameron....was the first surveyor of most of the lands and lakes on the westside (sic) of Okanagan Lake and designed many of the original dams for irrigation in this area (November 1982, February & April 1883 letters, file K.1.55)
