Francois Lake (Post Office & settlement) adopted in the 1930 BC Gazetteer, as labelled on BC map 3B, 1915 et seq. Confirmed 11 June 1936 on Geological Survey sheet 631A, Fort Fraser. Form of name changed to François Lake (settlement) 5 April 1956 on 93 K. Form of name changed to François Lake (Community) 31 December 1982 on 93K/4.

Francois Lake Post Office was opened 1 April 1910, located at the home of Mr. Harris (legal description not cited); subsequently moved to Lot 1011, then to SE 1/4 Lot 938.
