So-named by Dalby B. Morkill, BCLS, at the urging of Mr. Robert Stewart, owner of the Silverado Mine: the name Rainey Mtn [sic] is preferable to an earlier suggestion to call this "Silverado", and would commemorate one of the oldest residents of the district.

After Robert "Bob" Rainey, first locator on this hill; later killed on his claim near Stewart. An old timer of the district.
