Origin Notes and History:

New Aiyansh (settlement) adopted 4 April 1974. Subsequently the Aiyansh Post Office was moved to this location. Confirmed as New Aiyansh (Aiyansh PO)- (Community) 26 October 1988 on 103P/3. Dual name dismantled July 1993 by Ottawa. New Aiyansh (community) and Aiyansh (Post Office) at the same location; BOTH to be labelled on BC maps.

After a fire at Aiyansh in the early 1980's, the houses, businesses and post office were relocated 3 miles southwest, and this site was called New Aiyansh.

New Aiyansh is presently situated on part of the territory of Wii Lax K'ap....one of the first village sites of the Gitlaxt'aamiks before the volcanic eruption.
