Named in 1884 by Harry McDame, who discovered and worked placer gold claims on this creek that year. Significance of "Lorne" is not recorded. [see extensive description of Lorne Creek geomorphology and placer mining history in BC Mines Report 1930, pp 154-157, in turn excerpted from Reports 1899 -1906, 1914.] Placer activity continues to this day.
