Origin Notes and History:

Base (Sandbank) adopted 5 April 1927 on C.3713. Mis-identified in 1930 BC Gazetteer as Base Sand, and feature type was assumed to be a bank.

The descriptive label "Base Sand", with outline of extent, is displayed on British Admiralty Chart A2453, published in 1872, and on BC map 3M, 1916, 1921 & 1929. This is an extensive drying bank forming the major portion of the south side of Marcus Passage. Locally known as Wilson Bar according to Sailing Directions, 1991.
