Fannin Mountains adopted 1 May 1928 on Ottawa file OBF 1128. Form of name changed to Fannin Range 15 July 1982, as originally recommended to the Geographic Board by BC Geographic Division in 1928.

Extends 34+km, from the south slopes of Mount Seymour north and northwest to the head of Indian River.

Named after John Fannin (1837-1904), one of the Overlanders of 1862, naturalist, and first curator of the provincial museum, a position he held from 1886 until shortly before his death in 1904.
