Former name, "Sawmill", was changed to avoid duplication. Labelled "Bellevue (Sawmill) Creek" on BC map 4K, 1923.

Named in 1922 by R.D. McCaw, BCLS, after the hotel of the same name, built around the turn of the century by Gifford Thomson, and located near the mouth of the creek.

Residents still call this Sawmill Creek, according to 1955 advice from Kelowna municipal staff. However, 23 water licences and 7 conditional licences have been issued to date, all in the name of Bellevue Creek: "....after discussion with certain local officials and Mr. R.P. McLean of the Kelowna Courier....I suggest (retaining the name) Bellevue Creek." (June 1955 letter from Mr. Ker, Kelowna Engineering Department)
