Adopted 31 March 1924 on 94C/1 as listed in 1915 Gazetteer and as labeled on Reference Map 1H "B.C., Northern" (1917). May have previously been labeled as Raft River (Morice Map, 1907), Mesalinca River (maps/dates not cited), or Stranger River (Reference Map 51). Application altered 14 June 1974 to move headwaters of river from 56 07 - 124 27 to 56 08 - 124 29.
