Named in 1866 by Captain Pender, RN, after Captain John Adolphus Pope Price, RN, HMS Scout, 21 guns, on this station 1865-68. Entered the navy 1829. Was present at the siege of Acre, in 1840, as mate (sub-lieutenant) of HMS Thunderer, 84 guns. Lieutenant 1842. Commander 1854. Captain 1860. In 1869 was commodore and senior officer at Hong Kong, flagship Princess Charlotte. Retired 1870. Died 1874.
