Origin Notes and History:

Village Island adopted 3 April 1952 on 103J, as labelled on British Admiralty Chart 2426, 1907 et seq, and on BC map 3M, 1916. Name changed to Rose Island 30 October 1981 on 103J/9, as requested by Port Simpson Band Council - the village site is known as Lax Kw'alaams, meaning "place of wild roses."
