After BC pioneer Sarah Work, daughter of HBC chief factor John Work (see Work Bay) and wife of chief factor Roderick Finlayson. Sarah Island was named by Lt Daniel Pender of the hired survey vessel Beaver in 1867. Sarah Creek and Sarah Lake NE of Prince Rupert also commemorate her, as does Mount Sarah and Swindle Island.
