Jon W McKay was a timber cruiser from Seattle who had been asked by the ‘American Lumberman,’ a leading Chicago-based trade periodical, to evaluate the QCI timber holdings of the Graham Steamship, Coal & Lumber Co. He travelled with Graham officials to Masset Inlet in 1907, and the magazine devoted an entire issue to the company’s plans to develop lumber industry in the area. Those proposals came to nought, however, perhaps because of depressed economic conditions, though the Graham company held on to its QCI properties for many years.
