Named by H.D. Parizeau, Hydrographic Service, in association with Spider Island. Spider Island, in turn had been named c1865 by the British Admiralty, but in the waning days of WWII, Parizeau used the name to establish an aircraft/aviation theme for nearby islands: Spider, Mosquito, Hurricane, Kittyhawk, Spitfire...
