Origin Notes and History:

Margaret Island adopted 7 April 1955 on 92H/SW as an established local name, according to Lieut-Colonel A.M. Naismith, Harrison Hot Springs. Note that Naismith had submitted this as a new name in 1947 (file F.1.39). Spelling changed to Marguerite Island, 15 January 1982 on 92H/5.

Margaret and Camile were suggested for 2 islands in Harrison Lake, "....after Miss Margaret (sic) de Gusseme, who for many years managed Harrison Hot Springs Hotel, and her sister Camile, the hotel's assistant manager. Margaret died some years ago, and it is believed that Camile returned to Belgium...." (September 1947 letter from Naismith, file F.1.39). Note that Marguerite de Gusseme died 3 December 1943 (Vital Statistics records search, December 1981).
