In the fur trade era the brigade trail to Fort Alexandria went up the North Thompson to the present Little Fort, and across by Bridge Lake to Green Lake and Lac la Hache. Possibly some kind of bridge was erected across a marshy spot; more probably the name refers to the long land bridge between the North Thompson and Fraser River systems.
