Big Bar Creek (Post Office) adopted 5 August 1954 on 92, as labelled on BC map 1G, 1916; not "Big Bar" as was labelled on BC map 3K, 1913. Form of name changed to Big Bar Creek (settlement) in the 1977 Cumulative Supplement to the Gazetteer, 31 December 1977; subsequently changed to Big Bar Creek (community).

Big Bar Creek Post Office was opened 1 July 1881; closed 5 May 1958; reopened 10 November 1958; closed 13 November 1968. At one time the Post Office was located in Lot 151, then in Lot 3473 (dates not cited).
