Adopted 4 January 1927 on C.3726, listed in 19th Report, 1928. (Federal file OBF 1007). Labelled as "Steep Point" on British Admiralty Chart #1923B (1874).

Named for Robert Jamieson (1859-1945). Mr Jamieson immigrated to Victoria from Ontario with his parents in 1862 aboard the SS Cortes. He worked for several Victoria and New Westminster businesses including local newspapers and post offices. In the 1890s-1900s Mr. Jamieson owned and managed several Victoria area businesses including the Victoria Book and Stationary Co., Ltd, the Victoria Theatre, the Grand Theatre on Johnson Street and the Pacific Theatre on Broad Street. In 1915 he enlisted with the 88th Battalion CEF and served in WWI. Mr Jamieson returned to Victoria in 1918 and resumed his work in the theatre business, assuming management of the Pantages Theatre, now the McPherson Playhouse. In 1924 he left the theatre business to manage the New England Hotel.
