Sibola Mountains adopted 15 July 1936 on Geological Survey sheet 367A, Tahtsa-Morice, as submitted in 1922 by F.C.Swannell, BCLS, and labelled on BC Lands' topographic plans 14T1 and 3T255, both 1923, and as identified in the 1930 BC Gazetteer. Form of name changed to Sibola Range 7 September 1950 on 93E.

Probably named for Cibola, one of the mythical Seven Cities of Gold celebrated in the 16th Century for its riches, and in search of which the Spanish explorer Diego Vasquez de Coronada set out in 1540....
