Within the traditional territory of the Toquaht First Nation; the traditional name is Cakii (pronounced cha kee) meaning "water on top" (July 1983 interview by Denis St. Clair with Toquaht Elders Jimmy McKay, Sammy McKay and Chief Bert Mack.) ...likely a reference to a pond or pool on top" (advice from Anne Mack, shared November 2010)
