Adopted 6 Novemeber 1934 as appears on British Admiralty Chart 327 (title/date not cited) and likely on Chart 3627 (title/date not cited). In lieu of original paperwork this was reconfirmed in 1953 Gazetteer as appears on Reference Map 2A "Vancouver Island, Southerly" (1938).

"Macoah (also Mahcoah, Ma-co-ha), located on the passage, was the principle winter village of the Toquaht First Nation, whose members today belong to the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council. Indeed, this feature appeared on official charts as Village Passage until 1934. Macoah is a very ancient occupation site and plays a significant role in Toquaht mythology and oral traditions. The name means “house of the point,” according to archeologist Alan McMillan... "
