"Stung Mountain" was the name applied by a topographer who was trying to making his way to a locality but was stopped by this large mountain and therefore gave it the name "stung", but the name was deemed unacceptable for official recognition. "Mount Abel" was considered because of this mountains vicinity to Mount Cain, but that name was already used by a nearby mountain. The entry for "brother" from a First Nations dictionary at the time was considered, but the entry for "boy" was chosen because it was considered more pleasing to the ear.
