False Passage is a misnomer. Renamed by the Canadian Hydrographic Service in association with Haddington Island, in turn named in 1846 by Cmdr Gordon of the steam sloop Cormorant, after the Earl of Haddington, 1st Lord of the Admiralty 1841-46.
