Norman Godkin and his wife, Alice, were early pioneers in the Port Hardy area of northern Vancouver Island. Their daughter Eileen Excene Godkin (1903-83) married Jepther James Skinner (1868-1934) at Shushartie Bay Trading Post. Eileen sold out about 1940 after the drowning death of her husband, moved to Vancouver and married Captain Ed Godfrey, skipper of the mission boat Columbia for many years. Nearby Norman Island is named for Norman Godkin; Godkin Creek and Godkin Lake are also named for his family. Godkin Point was formally known as Gallows Point.
