Name submitted by R.W. Brock in his 2 April 1900 letter to Geological Survey of Canada. Odin sent nine martial shield maidens [the Valkyries] to gather up the heroic dead slain on the battlefield and take them to Valhalla. The beautiful white-armed virgins, having set aside their armour, clad themselved in pure white robes and constantly waited upon the warriors. (information provided December 2007 by Slocan historian Innes Cooper, encapsulated from Myths of Northern Lands, by H.A. Guerber; American Book Co., New Yrok, 1895.)
