Name submitted by R.W. Brock in his 2 April 1900 letter to Geological Survey of Canada. Odin sent nine martial shield maidens [the Valkyries] to gather up the heroic dead slain on the battlefield and take them to Valhalla. The beautiful white-armed virgins, having set aside their armour, clad themselved in pure white robes and constantly waited upon the warriors.
