Origin Notes and History:

Chamiss Bay (Steamer Landing) adopted 19 January 1956 on 92L/3, as identified in 1939 BC Directory, and as listed in CP timetables from April 1954. Form of name changed to Chamiss Bay (Settlement) in the 1966 Gazetteer; changed to Chamiss Bay (Landing) 27 January 1976 on 92 L; changed to Chamiss Bay (Locality) 15 February 1983 on 92L/3.

A small boat calls here every 11 days (February 1955 advice from CPR); identified in timetables through 1960; identified as "special call only" in October 1962 timetable. Population 38 in 1966 census. No one lives here year-round ( October 1967 advice from Forest Ranger at Gold River); population 3 in 1976 census; population 18 in 1981 census.
