Origin Notes and History:
Little Slocan River adopted in the 5th Report of the Geographic Board of Canada, 30 June 1904, as labelled on "Mining Map of the Southern District of West Kootenay", by C.E. Perry, 1893; and as labelled on BC Mines map "Southern Portion of East & West Kootenay Districts", published as an appendix in the 1897 BC Mines Report. Incorrectly described in the 18th Report of the Geographic Board of Canada, 31 March 1924, as rising about 49º47' - 117º47' and flowing south and southeast into Slocan River (ie. applying to the westerly fork, which is called Koch Creek). Description corrected in the 1930 BC Gazetteer, as flowing through Little Slocan Lakes (ie. applying to the east fork) as labelled on BC map 1EM, 1915. Re-confirmed 6 October 1955 on 82/SW (file O.1.49)

Westerly fork is mislabelled as the main stream of Little Slocan River, and the channel above Little Slocan Lakes is labelled "Beaver Creek" on BC Lands' map of East & West Kootenay, 1911. The east fork is labelled "East Fork Little Slocan River" on BC Lands' map 28, Rossland, 1912 - this channel since determined to be the main channel of Little Slocan River, with headwaters defined above Little Slocan Lakes in the vicinity of 49º 44' - 117º 34'. Department of Interior sheet #19, Kootenay, 1924 & 1936, incorrectly identifies this channel as Koch River [sic].
