Ruth Masters, Comox & District Mountaineering Club suggests that Jim Mitchell Lake (about 15 miles south near Bedwell Lake) was named for the same person, however that lake was named for James Scott Mitchell, a 17-year old member of a surveying party who drowned near there in 1937.
