Tasis River adopted 7 December 1920. Spelling changed to Tahsis River 1 February 1938 on C.3645, in association with nearby Indian Reserve.

[8 September 1865] "I found out that the names given to different places as arose from [Indigenous] names misconstrued, for instance... Tasis Canal or Tah-cease means where the water travel stops and they have to walk."
