Origin Notes and History:

Vedder Channel adopted 12 December 1939. Form of name changed to Vedder Canal 6 February 1948, being the preferred local name.

Vedder River flows westward from Vedder Crossing through a natural channel, then turns northwest in the vicinity of Yarrow and continues through a straightened channel into the Sumas River. The 3 mile/4.8 km portion of Vedder River that has been straightened is known as Vedder Canal.
