"Chuan Island [sic] is identified on the plan to accompany the "Report of a Canoe Expedition along the east coast of Vancouver Island" by James Douglas, esq, Governor, 1854." In a map to accompany Captain W. Colquhoun Grant's "Description of Vancouver Island," 1856, it is named Saltspring Island...."
