Origin Notes and History:

Adopted 21 November 1961 as a long-established local name, in association with Raft River.

Probably named about 1871 as Raft River appears on Trutch's map 1871 and the name was locally attached to the mountain. In 1923 the Board rejected a proposal to rename this mountain Martinspire, Martinshorne or some similar name, after the late T.G. Martin.
