According to Mr. Wilson, Land Inspector at Fort St. John "Tsakosa" was the surname of an Indigenous trapper who lived in the area before the Alaska Highway was constructed. It is recorded as meaning "red beaver" (Bougie Creek, New names, August 19, 1953).
