Named in 1923 by Reverend George D. Kilpatrick, pastor of St. Andrew's Church in Ottawa, while climbing in this area, after his wife Ruth. (30 November 1923 letter from Kilpatrick to Geographic Board; Ottawa file OBF 0841, 93I.)
