"Named in 1860 by Captain Richards, RN, but no knowledge of its application" (Aitken's February 1933 notation on BC name card.) Note that Richards' published chart of Beaver Cove stops just short of this feature, but his journal may refer to the feature by name.

Felipe Bauzá was the mapmaker for Galiano's expedition in 1792; the name was likely given by Galiano, with Captain Richards adapting the name from Spanish charts. After charting the inland and coastal waters, Bauzá left the expedition when it reached South America, and with Espinosa, surveyed and charted the country between Santiago and Buenos Aires. In his later years Bauzá was embroiled in political troubles, and died as an exile in England. Some of his papers are in the British Museum (letter November 1992, file A.1.40).
