"During the coarse of negotiations for this parcel, the Whitney-Griffiths family expressed the hope that the parcel [would be named] Whitney-Griffiths Park. However the CRD Board felt that this was not possible in view of the fact that already-acquired parklands had been named Witty's Lagoon Regional park, but, in order to comply with the family's request, passed a resolution... to name a point of land jutting into Witty's Lagoon as Whitney-Griffiths Point." (28 December 1971 letter from Capital Regional District) "Witty's Lagoon regional park is one step closed to completion with the purchase of 10 additional acres. The property was bought for $86,500 from the Whitney-Griffiths family and includes 1,200 feet of waterfront along the lagoon. CRD parks board has requested to name a point of land on the acquired property as Whitney-Griffiths Point. The family has held the land since 1907."
