Named after Peter Lonzo Anderson, who pre-empted DL 95, 18 August 1863, and purchased Lots 229 & 230 on 17 March 1871. The original intent was to name this creek "Anderson", as labelled on BC map 2B, 1914, and BC map 4P, 1936, but that name was already in use for 6 other features in BC, so Anderson's middle name, Lonzo, was submitted to the Geographic Board of Canada and adopted. Local usage has been "Marshall" since at least the 1950's, although it is not known who Marshall is/was, or how the change in usage came about. By Council Resolution 13 June 1994, District of Abbotsford requested name change (file S.1.39).

Sumas Indian Band advises - and Sto:lo Tribal Council concurs - that the traditional name was See-it-leh-hu (meaning or significance not known), although band members and residents of Upper Sumas IR 6 currently call this "Marshall" Creek.
