South Alnus Glacier adopted 7 April 1965 on 83C-D as originally labelled on BC-Alberta boundary sheet # 26, 1920. Also North Alnus Glacier.

Name suggested by interprovincial boundary surveyors in 1920, being the latin word for alder, thick groves of which abound on the mountain sides.
