Name rescinded 7 May 1959 on 92 G, following a field survey the previous year that indicated that this lake had dried up. Subsequently identified on Chamber of Commerce Maps, and confirmed that Water Rights Branch has re-issued licences on the lake (file F.1.34 pt.3). Name re-instated 28 March 1979 on 92G/6.

North Vancouver Archives advised that the name refers to the wild rice that grew there.

Harris's 1913 map labels "Pipe Line Road" between the intake on Lynn Creek and Rice Lake, suggesting that water was being diverted to Rice Lake; BC map 5B, 1929, shows the intakes and pipelines diverting water from Lynn Creek into Rice Lake (presumably for storage), thence SW through the District of North Vancouver into the City of North Vancouver.
